UT-sd Museum brings California Gold Rush to life
By JENNIFER KABBANY, Special to the U-T 3 p.m.Jan. 17, 2013

The California Gold Rush began in 1848 and, more than 150 years later, it’s still going strong.

“Within six months of the discovery of gold in California, people came here to pan for gold, and it hasn’t stopped,” said Temecula Valley Museum official Tracy Frick, noting that local gold mines remain active, and area prospecting groups have lengthy membership rosters.

With the California Gold Rush being an important aspect of this state’s history, and interest in searching for gold far from waning, the timing is perfect to offer “Gold Fever! The Untold Stories of California’s Gold Rush,” Frick said.

The exhibit launched Saturday and runs for six weeks.

The museum says this accounts for a third of all gold mined in Southern California during its period.

"Women feeling the oppression of modern society's standards of beauty have an unlikely advocate in the person of Canyon Lake artist Paul Price. However soft-spoken and gentle he is in demeanor, Paul has a warrior's heart when it comes to defending the causes he believes in - but he does so with a painter's brush rather than a sword, and with research, hard work and activism rather than rhetoric."
